Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to install a metal roof?

People are naturally interested to know how much their metal roofing project will cost. However, we can’t make any determinations on final costs without performing our due diligence. You can get the ball rolling by contacting us or requesting a free estimate.

We can say with confidence that our reviews are consistently high — with many customers mentioning how the cost of their roofing project was well worth it. These are satisfied clients who also wondered how much it costs to install a metal roof in Washington or Oregon and if a metal roof is worth the extra costs compared with traditional roofing.

Is it OK to put a metal roof over shingles?

Yes, we can install a new interlocking aluminum roofing system atop an existing roof. We’ll need to do a proper inspection to make that determination, however. Installing a metal roof over an existing traditional roofing material eliminates the need for a complete teardown. This is a time- and cost-saving approach that also limits the amount of debris we have to truck to the landfill, so it’s also eco-friendly!

Do metal roofs add value to a home?

Our experience says yes. The costs associated with a new metal roofing system can be incorporated into the sales price of a home, especially when one considers that metal roofing is lifetime roofing.

Can you walk on a metal roof?

Yes, you can walk on a metal roof. There may be reasons for a homeowner to walk on their metal roof (inspections, leaf clearance, etc.), although we usually suggest that people leave that to professionals.

Will a metal roof raise my insurance?

Unlikely. In fact, in some cases, it may help to lower it! We broach this topic in a series of blog posts, which you can find here. The best thing to do is speak with your homeowner’s insurance company.

What color metal roof is best?

This is a personal choice. The good news is that there are lots of color options available to you.

Is there a tax credit for installing a metal roof?

You may be eligible for a tax credit for Energy Star-certified metal that also features coatings and granules that reduce heat gain. Mountaintop Metal Roofing Permalock products are Energy Star rated.

Do metal roofs attract lightning?

No. We wrote a blog that addresses this question that you can find here.

How long does it take to install a metal roof?

This is another common question that, unfortunately, we can’t answer without assessing the situation and taking a look at your roof. Generally speaking — very generally speaking — it usually takes anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks. This is the Pacific Northwest, however, so this can vary. We’ll be sure to let you know how long we think it will take once we get to work.

Do metal roofs affect cell phones?

No, metal roofs will not affect cell phone performance or reception.

Do metal roofs need gutters?

Most roofs need gutters, especially here in the green and lush Pacific Northwest. Metal roofing is no different when it comes to the need for gutters.

Do metal roofs get hail damage?

Hail of sufficient heft and intensity can cause damage to just about anything. (Look what it did a few years ago at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado.) However, metal roofing does offer significant protective advantages over traditional roofing systems when subjected to the whims of Mother Nature. There are a lot of variables at play, which we covered in a blog on this topic.

Do metal roofs get dirty?

Metal roofing can get dirty just like any other material that’s tasked with covering a structure and protecting it. Metal roofing will be subjected to the elements for far longer than traditional roofing, however — sometimes many decades longer. Naturally, they’ll accumulate dirt. The good news is that metal roofing resists the growth of certain organic matter which can damage other roofing materials. Metal roofs are also easy to clean. We suggest you work with an experienced contractor to handle the cleaning job.

Is it OK to pressure wash a metal roof?

We do not recommend washing a metal roof with a pressure washer. The stream from a power washer can dent a metal roof when applied from a close distance.

Can a metal roof be repainted?

Yes! In fact, painting can provide an extra layer of protection and increase your roof’s lifespan.

Do you offer financing?

Yes, we offer financing on approved credit. Contact us for details.
